Nate Diaz Could Face Discipline For Smoking At UFC 202 Post-Fight Presser

Nate Diaz lost to Conor McGregor in UFC 202’s main event, which ended up being one of the most entertaining and competitive mixed-martial arts fights of all time.

Saturday night’s loss could have been just the first bit of bad news for Diaz, though. He was seen smoking out of a vape pen during the post-fight press conference, and he could face further sanctions from the USADA if he committed any violations.

“A spokesman for the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), which independently administers the UFC’s drug policy, confirmed to the Review-Journal late Monday the agency is looking into Nate Diaz’s admission he was smoking cannabidiol (CBD) oil during the post-fight news conference for his UFC 202 loss to Conor McGregor on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena,” Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal wrote Monday.

The issue here is if Diaz is telling the truth. Smoking CBD would be OK, but if it actually was some form of marijuana, then that would be an issue because cannabis is banned for six hours after a fight, as Hill noted.

No final decisions on possible sanctions have been made by the USADA at this time.

Smoking anything in a public place like a post-fight presser is a risk not worth taking, and it’ll be interesting to see if Diaz does the same thing after his next bout, whenever that might take place.

Just don’t expect it to be a third fight against McGregor, which is too bad.
