49ers Cut Bruce Miller After He Allegedly Assaulted Two Men, Including 70-Year-Old

The most stressful job in the NFL this season hasn’t been an on-field role. So far, that title belongs to anyone inside the San Francisco 49ers’ media relations staff.

We’ve all seen how Colin Kaepernick’s protest has played out, and now the 49ers have another hot potato to worry about.

The club cut tight end Bruce Miller over Labor Day weekend after the 29-year-old was arrested and accused of assaulting two men — including a 70-year-old.

It’s a bizarre story with limited details, but here’s what we know so far. Miller tried to book a room at a San Francisco hotel early Monday morning. Hotel officials told Miller, who was drunk, that there were no open rooms.

Instead of leaving, Miller allegedly tried to enter the room of an elderly couple. According to The Associated Press, the couple’s 29-year-old son was staying in the next room and confronted Miller.

That’s when things turned ugly and physical, as a fight apparently broke out between Miller, the other man and the man’s 70-year-old father. Miller punched both, according to the police, and both men were taken to the hospital.

Police eventually responded and arrested Miller, whom the 49ers cut later Monday. According to USA TODAY, Miller was arrested on four felony counts: two of criminal threats, one of assault with a deadly and one of elder abuse. He also was charged with a misdemeanor battery charge.

KTVU-TV in San Francisco obtained surveillance video which showed a bloody and disoriented Miller walking through the hotel.

The altercation and ensuing arrest don’t account for Miller’s first run-in with the law. He was arrested in March 2014 after being accused of shoving his ex-fiancee. He pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace and was ordered to attend anti-domestic violence counseling.
