David Ortiz Smiles On Sports Illustrated Regional Cover As ‘Designated Editor’ This Week

David Ortiz’s next appearance on the cover of Sports Illustrated likely will herald another fabulous fourth.

The Boston Red Sox slugger will appear on the regional cover of this week’s issue of Sports Illustrated in commemoration of his looming retirement from Major League Baseball, Sports Illustrated announced Tuesday. Ortiz brings some fans and friends along for his fourth-ever appearance on SI’s cover.

Ortiz also will serve as guest editor for the issue, and Tom Verducci will interview him ahead of his final regular-season game.

Ortiz, 40, undoubtedly will take his Sports Illustrated role seriously, but higher priorities exist on his to-do list: namely, winning a fourth World Series with Boston and ending his career in the finest style imaginable.
