FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots’ first official practice of the 2016 regular season wasn’t padded.
The Patriots wore shells and shorts for Sunday’s practice. Tight end Rob Gronkowski and linebacker Barkevious Mingo were absent for the session.
Both players practiced last Tuesday. Mingo played against the New York Giants on Thursday and was spotted in the locker room Sunday afternoon.
Wide receiver Danny Amendola practiced for the first time all summer. Starting left tackle Nate Solder didn’t appear to be a full participant during the portion open to the media.
Six practice squad players were on the field for the practice: defensive end Geneo Grissom, wide receiver Devin Lucien, offensive lineman Chris Barker, defensive tackle Woodrow Hamilton and defensive end Rufus Johnson. There also was an offensive lineman wearing No. 72. That could have been offensive tackle Clay DeBord, who worked out for the Patriots this week.
