Cubs Fan, WWII Veteran Gets World Series Tickets Through GoFundMe
There aren’t too many Chicago Cubs fans who remember the last time their team was in the World Series, but one of those fans will get to see them play at Wrigley Field on Friday.
The Cubs’ last World Series appearance was in 1945 — they haven’t won since 1908 — and not only does 97-year-old Jim Schlegel remember it, but he was there for Game 7. Now, thanks to his granddaughter, Helen, and the internet, the World War II veteran, who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor, has front-row tickets to watch the Cubbies play the Cleveland Indians in Game 3 of their series.
Helen Schlegel set up a GoFundMe page Sunday to get her grandpa to the Fall Classic, and on Tuesday, Marcus Lemonis of CNBC’s “The Profit” came through and donated two tickets to Friday’s game.

Now that Schlegel has his tickets, Helen is keeping the GoFundMe page open and donating 100 percent of the money to the Purple Heart Foundation.
