There aren’t too many Chicago Cubs fans who remember the last time their team was in the World Series, but one of those fans will get to see them play at Wrigley Field on Friday.
The Cubs’ last World Series appearance was in 1945 — they haven’t won since 1908 — and not only does 97-year-old Jim Schlegel remember it, but he was there for Game 7. Now, thanks to his granddaughter, Helen, and the internet, the World War II veteran, who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor, has front-row tickets to watch the Cubbies play the Cleveland Indians in Game 3 of their series.
Helen Schlegel set up a GoFundMe page Sunday to get her grandpa to the Fall Classic, and on Tuesday, Marcus Lemonis of CNBC’s “The Profit” came through and donated two tickets to Friday’s game.
This man is so deserving. We've connected and he's going with my two tix first row Friday. Enjoy Jim, bring us a win!!! @Cubs @fox32news https://t.co/C3LxCu5V0w

Needless to say, Jim Schlegel is pretty pumped about going.

My grandpa is beyond excited to go to the Cubs game! I've printed out everyone's kind words for him to read! I love this guy!!! pic.twitter.com/LpEB8xDVdY

Now that Schlegel has his tickets, Helen is keeping the GoFundMe page open and donating 100 percent of the money to the Purple Heart Foundation.
