Sidney Crosby Diagnosed With Concussion; Will He Miss Penguins’ Season Opener?

Sidney Crosby has been diagnosed with a concussion, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced Monday.

According to a brief news release, “Crosby sat out Saturday’s preseason game vs. Columbus because he was not feeling well, and missed practice (Monday) to undergo concussion testing.”

This isn’t the first time Crosby has suffered from a concussion.

Crosby’s last game was Sept. 29 for Team Canada in Game 2 of the 2016 World Cup of Hockey in Toronto. He did not play in the preseason for the Penguins, who open the regular season Thursday night against the Washington Capitals.

The 29-year-old center led the Penguins to their fourth Stanley Cup title in team history last season. It was his second championship as team captain. He also won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.

Crosby tallied 85 points (36 goals, 49 assists) in 80 games during the 2015-16 season.
