“The Simpsons” have done Boston like only they can.
America’s favorite animated family visited Boston on Sunday’s episode, which is aptly titled “The Town.” The much-anticipated episode included a host of references for those familiar with the Boston area and many others with which only true natives can. The list of guest stars also looks like a who’s who of local lore.
Of course, our favorite was the NESN call-out.

We also loved the Boston Americans football team, whose hood-and-scowl-wearing head coach and pretty boy quarterback help them cheat to victory, according to disgruntled Springfield fans.

“The Town” was chock-full of (greater) Boston references largely thanks to executive producer Matt Selman, who hails from Watertown, Mass., and writer and Needham, Mass., native Dave King, according to the Boston.com’s Kevin Slane.
“I spent as much money as I possibly could without getting in serious trouble,” Selman said. “I stuffed every single poster, every single part of every scene full of references.
“I just want the hometown crowd to love it. Or at least I want them to not think some goofy kid from Watertown f***ed it up.
“The rest of the country can suck it.”
Mission accomplished.
