Travis Shaw, Michael Kopech Bid Farewell To Red Sox On Busy Day For Boston

The Boston Red Sox just landed one of baseball’s best pitchers and a solid back-end reliever. But they didn’t get them for free.

Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski acquired left-handed ace Chris Sale from the Chicago White Sox and right-handed bullpen man Tyler Thornburg from the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday in a flurry of activity. Dombrowski parted with a host of players, however, most notably third baseman Travis Shaw (Thornburg trade) and prospects Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech (Sale trade).

Shaw, the only major league player Boston dealt, naturally felt inclined to thank the organization and his former teammates. He did just that in a great exchange with infielder Brock Holt.

Kopech, the team’s No. 5 prospect according to SoxProspects.com, released a brief statement via Twitter before making a solid Red Sox-White Sox joke.

Minor league outfielder Mauricio Dubon, Boston’s No. 9 prospect per SoxProspects.com, also expressed his thanks to the organization.

It’s never easy moving from one team to another, but it appears the players heading out of Boston on Tuesday handled the moves with class.
