Your Tostitos Bag Can Now Tell Whether You’re Drunk, Call Uber If You Are

If you’re anything like us, you’ve long awaited the day when a bag of chips doubles as an alcohol detector. Now, just in time for Super Bowl LI, the wait is over.

Frito-Lay’s Tostitos has partnered with Uber and Mothers Against Drunk Driving to create “alcohol sensor bags,” chip bags that can detect traces of alcohol on your breath, USA TODAY reports. The bags can’t measure your blood alcohol level, but they can sift through the various aromas of Super Bowl Sunday snacks and determine if you’ve been drinking.

If you’ve behaved yourself, the logo on the front lights up green. If you’ve had too much to drink, a red steering wheel with the message “don’t drink and drive” flashes on the front, as well as a promo code for $10 off an Uber ride.

“We wanted to make sure that as people were celebrating, they were also partying responsibly,” Jennifer Saenz, chief marketing officer for Frito-Lay, said, via USA TODAY. “We thought it was an opportunity to begin a conversation with consumers about drinking and driving, and about responsibility, in a really fun and engaging way.”

Now for the  buzzkill: These bags won’t be available to the public.

However, Frito-Lay is giving out 25,000 $10 Uber discounts on any of its chip bags sold between now and the Super Bowl. All you have to do is type the last five digits of your bag’s UPC barcode into your Uber app after the conclusion of the big game.
