Dan Fegan, Influential NBA Agent, Dies At 56 In Colorado Car Crash
The NBA world mourned the sudden passing of a prominent league fixture Sunday night.
Influential NBA agent Dan Fegan died Sunday after his vehicle was hit by a bus near Aspen, Colo., State Patrol authorities confirmed. He was 56.
Fegan had represented several high-profile clients, including DeMarcus Cousins, John Wall, Dwight Howard, Ricky Rubio and Nene, and a 2016 Forbes profile referred to him as “one of the industry’s most respected basketball agents.” He had split with his agency, Independent Sports & Entertainment, in March 2017.
Fegan’s 5-year-old son and a 29-year-old California woman also were in his SUV when he tried to merge onto a highway and was broadsided by a commuter bus, according to the Colorado State Patrol. Both passengers were airlifted to a Denver hospital in serious condition.
Howard reacted to the news on Twitter, writing, “My heart and prayers go out to the family, especially Dan’s young son who was apparently injured in this accident.”
Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge also issued a statement, recalling when Fegan sought medical care for his brother in Boston after he was diagnosed with cancer.
“I just remember Dan very emotionally talking to me about getting whatever help we could provide his family in getting his brother into Mass. General (Hospital) as quickly as possible for treatment,” Ainge said, via ESPN. “He cared so deeply about helping his brother.”
Fegan represented several Celtics players throughout his career, including star forward Antoine Walker.
