Two days after the Boston Red Sox welcomed a new power hitter to spring training, the team received a visit from a former slugger in Fort Myers, Fla.
David Ortiz joined the Red Sox on Wednesday, his first trip to spring training since his retirement after the 2016 season.

While Ortiz, of course, won’t be stepping into the batter’s box at Fenway Park anymore, it was a nostalgic sight to see Big Papi don Boston gear once again.

Ortiz will be with the Red Sox through Sunday helping players as former Sox Pedro Martinez, Derek Lowe and Mike Lowell already have done this spring training. While Ortiz likely will spread his wisdom up and down the roster, it sounds like he’ll really enjoy working with Boston’s newest player.
David Ortiz will be with the #RedSox through Sunday and will work with players on the field. He greatly approves of adding JD Martinez’s “thunder.”

Ortiz left quite the hole in the middle of the Red Sox’s lineup when he rode off into the sunset, and the team surely hopes Martinez can help fill the void in years to come.
