NFL Rumors: Chiefs Agree To Trade Marcus Peters To Rams For Draft Picks

Brett Veach is not messing around, folks.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ new general manager raised eyebrows earlier this offseason by reportedly agreeing to trade Pro Bowl quarterback Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins. Now, Veach reportedly has agreed to move another Pro Bowler, sending cornerback Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

As Schefter notes, the trade can’t be made official until March 14, the first day of the new league year, but the deal is expected to go through.

Kansas City will receive a “package of draft picks” in return for Peters, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported.

Peters is a great addition on paper for L.A.: He has forced a whopping 24 turnovers in three NFL seasons and has 19 interceptions in 45 career games. But he may come with some baggage, as the Chiefs reportedly became so “exasperated” with the 25-year-old last season that they suspended him for one game.

Peters also was disciplined for throwing an official’s flag in a late-season loss to the New York Jets before stalking off to the locker room, even though he was not ejected.

The cornerback market looks a bit thinner with Peters off the board, especially after reports that the Seattle Seahawks may hold onto Richard Sherman.
