Bruins Sign Harvard Defenseman Wiley Sherman To Entry-Level Contract

Harvard has become quite a pipeline for the Boston Bruins.

The Bruins announced Wednesday they’ve signed Harvard defenseman Wiley Sherman to a two-year entry-level contract, beginning with the 2018-19 season. Sherman will join the Bruins’ AHL affiliate in Providence on an Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO) for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.

Sherman, a native of Greenwich, Conn., originally was selected by the Bruins in the fifth round (150th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. The 22-year-old is listed at 6-foot-7, 220 pounds, and is coming off a senior season with the Crimson in which he totaled three goals and four assists for seven points in 33 games. He recorded a team-high 61 blocked shots.

Sherman’s signing comes just two days after fellow Harvard product Ryan Donato made his NHL debut with the Bruins, scoring a goal and adding two assists. Sherman won’t immediately slide into Boston’s lineup like his former college teammate, but the hope is he develops into a solid defensive-minded blueliner in the coming years.
