Lakers Announce Isaiah Thomas Will Miss Rest Of Season After Surgery On Hip

Isaiah Thomas’ miserable season is over.

The Los Angeles Lakers point guard has had a tumultuous campaign to say the least, and it now is officially over after he had a successful arthroscopic surgery on his right hip Thursday, the team announced.

Thomas’ season will be bookended with missed time due to his ailing hip. He gutted through the injury in its onset during the 2016-17 season with the Boston Celtics, helping them reach the Eastern Conference Finals.

After being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers before the current season started, Thomas didn’t actually dress for the Cavs until early January due to the injury. He was sent to the Lakers at the trade deadline after 15 games in Cleveland, and now his season is done after 17 games with the Lakers.

A pending free agent, the 29-year-old had been quite clear that he believed he was deserving of a max contract. Due to the injuries and some resulting performance issues, however, it is unlikely he will receive that this summer.

The Lakers reportedly are interested in exploring a deal with the point guard this offseason.
