NBA Rumors: Derrick Rose To Join Timberwolves For Rest Of NBA Season

Derrick Rose finally has found a basketball home … for now.

The free agent point guard and former NBA MVP will sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the rest of the season, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday, citing NBA sources.

The transaction will reunite Rose with Tom Thibodeau, who coached him between 2010 and 2015 with the Chicago Bulls. Minnesota’s Jimmy Butler, Taj Gibson, John Lucas III and Aaron Brooks also played with Rose in Chicago.

Rose has been a free agent since the Utah Jazz waived him last month, following his arrival via trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers. He reportedly was hoping to join a team for at least the rest of the season, and the Timberwolves apparently will grant him that wish.

Rose, 29, is a shell of the player he was before injuries decimated his abilities, but he still might help the Timberwolves climb from sixth place the Western Conference standings ahead of the NBA playoffs. However, he won’t be eligible for inclusion on Minnesota’s postseason roster because his signing will come after the March 1 deadline.
