When news first broke of the Green Bay Packers’ decision to release Jordy Nelson, New England Patriots fans justifiably began freaking out.
But the 32-year-old wide receiver reportedly won’t be teaming up with Tom Brady.
Nelson is “on his way” to signing a contract with the Oakland Raiders, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday, citing sources. The Raiders are trying to finalize the deal before Friday.

Well, you can strike another big name off the free agency board, Pats fans.
At the end of the day, it’s probably wise for the Patriots to avoid Nelson, as running an offense reliant on two 30-plus wideouts (Julian Edelman turns 32 in May) is asking for trouble, especially when both have suffered ACL tears in the past. Still, it’s easy to daydream of Brady lighting up the scoreboard with another superstar receiver at his disposal.
