Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez has been the epitome of durable for many seasons, but that all changed with a freak accident.
The five-time All-Star will miss the first 4-6 weeks of the season after tearing his MCL, and it’s all because he slipped while carrying some luggage up a set of stairs Tuesday.
After resting and icing the remainder of the night, he recieved an MRI Wednesday, which revealed a grade 2 sprain.
“All the work I do, training in the offseason, I feel sad,” Perez said, via ESPN.
Understandably so.
Not only has he earned five consecutive All-Star nods, but last season was one of his best. He hit 27 home runs and drove in 80 runs while hitting .268.
And with the Royals short on power bats this season after the departure of Eric Hosmer, having a healthy Perez was going to be of utmost importance.
