It’s no secret Zdeno Chara is an absolute animal.
The Boston Bruins 41-year-old defenseman is a behemoth of an individual, and despite his advanced years, still is a true top-pairing blueliner.
And as time has gone on, it has become quite clear that Chara is into fitness — much like 40-year-old New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady — and in turn, it has been a pivotal part of his success.
But Chara isn’t just into fitness as a way to stay in the NHL, it is a passion. And a big one.
Former Bruins teammate Andrew Ference detailed the monster Chara is when it comes to working out in a long-form piece on the B’s captain in Sports Illustrated.
“He doesn’t need a trainer or a coach yelling at him to get back in shape,” Ference said. “He’s the opposite. He needs people to tug on his reins: ‘Zee, you’re playing 28 minutes a night, we’re in the playoffs, you don’t need to go into the gym and have a full workout after the game.'”
Unbelievable.
Chara’s attention to detail when it comes to his fitness clearly has been paying off, as he shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
