You’ll never believe this, but Julian Edelman played quarterback in college.
While Edelman’s collegiate QB days have become one of the most tired “fun facts” in all of football, the New England Patriots wide receiver reminded us all of his signal-caller past via a flashback Friday Instagram post.
In the photo, Edelman, then a Kent State quarterback, is shown dishing a lateral pass, which apparently made his quarterback a little jealous. Tom Bradly hilariously left a comment on the photo in which he pleaded with Edelman saying, “You have to teach me that.”
But Brady’s comment was one-upped by another Patriots fan-favorite. Former New England linebacker Tedy Bruschi also appreciated Edelman’s versatility, as displayed in a comment that read “No need to draft a QB!” coupled with a crying laughing emoji.
Despite Bruschi’s faith in Edelman as Brady’s successor, it’s hard not to imagine the Patriots addressing the quarterback position in the draft later this month. New England’s recent blockbuster trade of Brandin Cooks has many under the impression it will move up in the draft to select a QB. Not to mention, the Pats reportedly held a workout with Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph recently.
All things considered, Edelman probably won’t get too many chances to throw the ball in the upcoming season. That said, he’s proven in the past that he can get the job done through the air, so who’s to say he can’t let one fly again?
