Red Sox World Series Roster: Drew Pomeranz Added As Sox Take On Dodgers

The Boston Red Sox have released their roster for the 2018 World Series, and there’s one big surprise.

Red Sox pitcher Drew Pomeranz was added to the roster ahead of Game 1 on Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pomeranz is replacing Brandon Workman, who’s being left off the roster after making the cut for the first two playoff rounds.

It’s a fairly surprising move given how little the Red Sox have used Pomeranz since July. The big left-hander last started on Aug. 7 and has pitched out of the bullpen since then. He made 15 relief appearances over the final two months of the season and wasn’t particularly effective, with opponents hitting .292 off him. He didn’t help himself, either, with 12 walks in 22 2/3 innings, which contributed to an unsightly 5.56 ERA.

The Red Sox left Pomeranz off the roster for both the American League Division Series and the League Championship Series. He hasn’t appeared in a game since Sept. 30.

Here’s the full World Series roster for the Red Sox.
