ONE BIG TAKEAWAY
The Bruins closed out their four-game road trip with Jeremy Swayman pitching the shutout for his third win of the season.
The Bruins goaltender thought he gave up a first-period goal to rookie sensation Connor Bedard when Charlie Coyle was attempting to clear the puck out of Boston’s defensive one when Bedard picked it off and launched the one-timer past the 24-year-old netminder.
With a tip of the hat to the Bruins video replay team, head coach Jim Montgomery challenged the play for offsides and the goal was overturned.
Swayman settled in and shut down the Blackhawks’ offense by not only making 23 saves but also controlling the rebounds to prevent Chicago from gaining second-chance scoring opportunities.
STARS OF THE GAME
— Pavel Zacha recorded his first goal of the season in the second period when he tipped Kevin Shattenkirk’s shot past Blackhawks goaltender Petr Mrazek.
— Matthew Poitras notched his third goal in two games in the third period to extend the Bruins lead 2-0. The 19-year-old rookie outraced Corey Perry to the loose puck and skated in alone to beat Mrazek.
— Swayman earned his first shutout of the season, the tenth of his career.
WAGER WATCH
FanDuel Sportsbook set the odds at +1900 that Zacha would light the lamp first in the game. The Bruins center cleared those odds with his first goal of the season. A $100 wager on Zacha’s tally would’ve resulted in a $2,000 payout.
