Martin is dealing with right elbow inflammation
The Boston Red Sox had to make a reliever swap prior to a key three-game series in New York against the Yankees.
The Red Sox recalled left-handed reliever Cam Booser while veteran righty Chris Martin heads to the injured list with right elbow inflammation, per a team release.
Martin tallied a scoreless inning in his last outing against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday. The 38-year-old did not allow a run in the five appearances he had for the Red Sox since returning from a prior IL stint due to anxiety.
Meanwhile for Booser, the lefty success story after a long road through the minor leagues posted a 3.21 ERA in 26 games for the Red Sox. He now returns to the Boston bullpen as another left-hander alongside Brennan Bernardino.
Boston’s staff posted a 3.57 ERA in the month of June and earns the chance to continue a hot start in July that began with a three-game sweep of the Marlins.
The Red Sox now prepare to battle the Yankees with plenty on the line for both teams in the weekend set that begins Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. ET. You can catch the game, plus an hour of pregame coverage, on NESN.
