Adams expressed his frustration at the start of the 2023 campaign
Aaron Rodgers might have thrown the first few sticks on the fire, but the Netflix docuseries “Receiver” lit a match on the Davante Adams trade speculation.
Adams, who is among a group of five pass-catchers featured on the recently-released Netflix series, expressed his annoyance with his situation during the first half of the eight-episode season. Adams even said he “signed off” on the benching of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, and acknowledged that decision and the firing of head coach Josh McDaniels were conducted in order to keep him a Raider.
Netflix cameras also captured an on-field conversation between Adams and Rodgers when the Raiders hosted the Jets in mid-November. Adams admitted hanging out with Rodgers at that point of the season, which included a dinner when New York was in Las Vegas, was what he needed to help him reset given the frustration.
ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky was among those to watch the docuseries and now believes Adams really could team up with Rodgers this season.
“I think Davante Adams plays for the Jets this season,” Orlovsky said during ESPN’s “Get Up” on Tuesday.
“The reason why I say that is this: Have you watched Netflix, the ‘Receiver’ stuff?’ Have you seen the frustration from Davante Adams? It’s not that much better of a situation. The only reason it wouldn’t happen is if he would feel bad about leaving Antonio Pierce, their new head coach.”
Orlovsky’s mention of Pierce is notable.
After all, Adams’ sentiments were recorded when McDaniels was the head coach. After McDaniels was relieved of his duties, Adams was captured having a much better time in the Las Vegas locker room. He said multiple times the vibes in the organization were better after Pierce took over.
Rodgers said last week he looks forward to playing with Adams “again.”
