Ortiz thrives off New York misfortune
David Ortiz was hard at work Tuesday night in Texas, both for FOX Sports and the Boston Red Sox.
Ortiz served as an analyst for the 2024 MLB All-Star Game at Globe Life Field. Included in the former slugger’s duties was a trip to the American League dugout, where Ortiz conducted quick interviews with a handful of standouts in the Junior Circut.
One of the interviewees was starting shortstop Gunnar Henderson, who was in relaxation mode after exiting the Midsummer Classic in the fifth inning. Ortiz asked the Orioles star if he could take it easy on the Red Sox, a request that Henderson unsurprisingly rejected. But the Baseball Hall of Famer and the 23-year-old ultimately met in the middle, with Henderson agreeing to keep beating the Yankees.
This wasn’t the first time Ortiz and Henderson joined forces at New York’s expense. The Red Sox legend celebrated with the Baltimore shortstop and catcher Adley Rutschman after the O’s handed the Bronx Bombers a brutal loss in the rivals’ final game before the break.
Ortiz will be starving for more Yankees misery when the Red Sox start their next homestand. After a six-game West Coast road trip that kicks off Friday in Los Angeles, Boston will welcome New York to Fenway Park for a three-game set beginning July 26.
