Ex-Patriot Has Hilarious Take On Kyle Shanahan’s Job Offer To Bill Belichick

Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick reportedly rejected Kyle Shanahan’s offer to join his San Francisco 49ers staff.

Super Bowl champion Jason McCourty had a hilarious take on why the partnership wouldn’t have worked despite Shanahan’s mental prowess on the offensive side of the ball and Belichick’s talent on defense.

“On a day-to-day basis, calling the shots and doing all of those things … I don’t know quite how that would work,” McCourty said on “The Jim Rome Show” podcast on Thursday. “For the married people out there, you know, you have your wife, and your wife wants her household a certain type of way.

“For me, single mom growing up, I was a mamma’s boy. I could not imagine my wife and my mom in one household and both of them trying to call the shots. Who’s supposed to bend down to other and say, ‘Alright, your way or the highway.’ Because I know, for me, growing up, that was my mom saying, ‘Hey, if you’re going to be in this house, you’re going to live by my rules.’ Now, being married, my wife dictates all the rules, and I got to live by that too. I don’t know if you can bring those two forces together and make it work.”

McCourty added that his favorite part of the story was how Shanahan described Belichick’s rejection.

“What I loved about it is that he politely declined in just such a Belichick way,” he said. “Like, ‘Hey, thanks, but no thanks.'”

Belichick and then-offensive coordinator Shanahan went head-to-head when the Patriots and Atlanta Falcons met in Super Bowl LI, with the legendary coach coming out on top after New England overcame a 25-point deficit in the third quarter to win its fifth title in overtime.

If the pair had teamed up in San Francisco the way Shanahan envisioned, it would have been more than likely the duo could have captured a title together with the talented roster the 49ers have.
