Four First-Round Players Red Sox Could Target In 2024 MLB Draft

Boston can add another talented prospect

The Boston Red Sox have the chance to add another exciting young player as they hold the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.

Boston already boasts one of the sport’s better farm systems built on their elite trio of Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony and Kyle Teel. Now with another favorable pick, the Red Sox can supply another talent to the organization.

With plenty of talent to choose from, here are four names to watch as the Red Sox prepare to make their first-round selection on Sunday.

Vance Honeycutt – OF, North Carolina
2024 Stats: .318/.410/.714, 1.124 OPS, 28 HR, 70 RBI, 43 XBH, 28/32 SB

Honeycutt is one of college baseball’s most exciting players.

He hits clutch home runs. He makes highlight reel catches. He led his lineup and stood out as North Carolina marched to the College World Series. Honeycutt truly can do it all and will bring excitement to whoever drafts him in the coming days.

What do you think?  Leave a comment.

His swing-and-miss can be a concern as he struck out over 30% of the time in 2024. Nonetheless, teams like the Red Sox should be intrigued by Honeycutt’s pure ability.

Christian Moore – 2B, Tennessee
2024 Stats: .375/.451/.797, 1.248 OPS, 34 HR, 74 RBI, 55 XBH

Moore completely mashed at the plate in three years with the Volunteers and still took a huge leap forward, particularly in the power department when he doubled his career-high in long balls. Boston has tried to develop their future second baseman for years and now Moore could jump into that conversation.

The Connecticut native stole the show in Omaha this year when he hit for the cycle on Tennessee’s path to a national championship.

Trey Yesavage – RHP, East Carolina
2024 Stats: 11-1, 2.03 ERA, 15 GS, 1 CG, 93 1/3 IP, 145 K, 32 BB 0.868 WHIP, 14.0 K/9

East Carolina’s ace simply got better and better over his final two years as a collegiate starter. Yesavage has an ERA in the two’s in each of the last two seasons. His stuff continued to play for the Pirates, including a start with 15 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings against Wichita State this spring.

Craig Breslow committed to developing pitching from within for the Red Sox. Yesavage would be an intriguing addition to Boston’s program.

Konnor Griffin – INF, Jackson Prep HS (MS)
2024 Stats (HS): .559 AVG, 9 HR, 39 RBI, 26 XBH, 76 R

The Red Sox lived to draft high school infielders during the Chaim Bloom era. We’ll see if that’s still the case with Breslow.
