Jarren Duran’s Undergone ‘Amazing’ Resurgence Into Red Sox All-Star

Duran earned his first career All-Star nod

The Boston Red Sox had three representatives voted to the 2024 MLB All-Star Game, however, the mountain climb to earning that honor has been especially commendable by outfielder Jarren Duran.

Last season, Duran didn’t make the team’s Opening Day roster, leaving the speedy veteran to patiently await his next big league opportunity with Boston’s Triple-A affiliate club in Worcester. It didn’t take too long for Duran to get his chance in 2023, and when the 27-year-old did, he fled with it and didn’t look back.

Now, the four-year veteran is an All-Star for the first time in Duran’s career.

“What he went from in 2021 to where he is now in 2024 is amazing,” George Balekji explained on NESN’s “Boston Has Entered The Chat” podcast. “Because this a kid that’s great and you have to be so happy for the Red Sox that you were patient, you saw it out and you let him get through his growing pains, and it’s happening here in Boston and not elsewhere. I think it’s huge for Duran.”

Duran is batting .276 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs, leading the Red Sox in doubles (24) and triples (10) thus far. Identically to last season, Boston’s been able to rely on Duran to be the team’s most aggressive base runner, routinely turning singles into doubles and keeping opposing outfielders and catchers on their toes.

Since fellow Red Sox All-Star and teammate Rafael Devers won’t be attending the Midsummer Classic in Texas on July 16, Duran will be Boston’s lone position player representing the organization for the American League at Globe Life Field.
