Tatum is hungry for more
Celtics star Jayson Tatum won’t be satisfied with one NBA championship.
After flirting with basketball’s ultimate prize in seasons past, Tatum and company finally got over the hump and were the last team standing in the 2023-24 campaign. And the future remains incredibly bright in Boston, as the club’s core will remain intact for years to come.
The Celtics helped ensure as much before the start of the playoffs when they extended Jrue Holiday, and mere weeks after clinching Banner 18, the franchise followed suit with Derrick White and Tatum. Boston on Saturday shared a video of Tatum signing his new deal, and while doing so, the five-time All-Star made a prediction for the future.
“Happy to be here for another five years, for the long haul. This is what we do it for,” Tatum said while holding the Larry O’Brien Trophy. “Looking forward to getting a couple more of these.”
The Celtics, who also ironed out new deals with a series of role players after defeating the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, have a golden opportunity to go back-to-back. Oddsmakers believe it’s a distinct possibility, too, as Boston is a significant 3-1 betting favorite at FanDuel Sportsbook to win the championship next season.
