Judon's future in New England remains uncertain
One of the Patriots who will command the most attention when training camp begins this week is Matthew Judon.
Judon currently is slated to play the 2024 season on an expiring contract and there have been conflicting reports about his uncertain future in New England. All the while, the star pass-rusher has remained active on social media, and recent curious activity on X caused many eyebrows to raise among the Foxboro Faithful.
An X user on Saturday floated a hypothetical trade scenario where the Patriots sent Judon and a second-round pick to the 49ers in exchange for a fifth-rounder and Brandon Aiyuk, who reportedly wants out of San Francisco and is drawing interest from New England. Judon reposted the tweet to his own account, which drew a widespread reaction.
It’s unclear what motive Judon had when he reposted the Aiyuk trade proposal. But no matter the reason, it created a distraction in the days leading up to critical training camp in New England, where first-year head coach Jerod Mayo will be working with a new-look coaching staff and several new players.
We probably expect Mayo, Judon and many other players and coaches to be asked about the evolving situation this week on the practice fields outside Gillette Stadium. But remains to be seen if any legitimate answers will be provided.
