New Red Sox Catcher Faces Strange Scenario From Suspended Game

Jansen will have an interesting reunion with the Blue Jays

BOSTON — Danny Jansen will wear a Red Sox uniform for the first time on Sunday night as the team’s designated hitter against the New York Yankees.

In a few weeks, that might create quite the confusion on the scorecards.

The Red Sox acquired Jansen in a trade over the weekend with the Toronto Blue Jays. Boston and Toronto had their series finale suspended due to weather on June 26 and will continue the contest on Monday, August 26 as part of a doubleheader.

Now, here’s the interesting part.

Jansen was at the plate for Toronto against Red Sox starter Kutter Crawford when the game paused just over a month ago. That could create quite the awkward scenario.

“I don’t even know how this works,” Jansen told reporters on Sunday. “I’ve heard about it a couple of times. That would be funky. … (I know) I’m down 0-1.”

The teams split the series to that point when the Red Sox roared back for a walk-off victory in the opener before the Blue Jays’ bats bounced back with a response in the middle game.

In the meantime, Jansen shared his excitement to join a playoff push with Boston before then.

“It’s what we play for,” Jansen said. “It’s really exciting. Grateful to be here. This atmosphere is incredible. Playing against it for so many years now. Playing against these guys and seeing the group and how much talent, it’s really fun to be a part of it.”
