Patriots’ Jerod Mayo Happily Confirms Jabrill Peppers Extension

The New England Patriots and Jabrill Peppers officially agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension Friday.

How do we know it’s official?

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo confirmed as much, holding his pre-practice session with media almost immediately after it was reported by ESPN’s Field Yates.

“I can confirm it. I’m the head coach,” Mayo said, per team-provided video, laughing off a brief pause. “I’m happy for Peppers, and for his family, and for our team and organization. He really embodies everything that you want on the field. He’s very selfless out there flying around all the time; it’s good to get that deal done.”

Peppers’ deal reportedly has a base value of $24 million but can reach a max value of $30 million through incentives.

It’s just the latest extension/re-signing by the Patriots this offseason, as Peppers joins Kyle Dugger, Christian Barmore, Rhamondre Stevenson, Mike Onwenu, Hunter Henry, Kendrick Bourne, Anfernee Jennings and Joshua Uche as returning contributors who received new deals.

The Patriots do have a few more deals left to get done, though.

Matthew Judon and Davon Godchaux both have been outspoken regarding their contract situations, with each set to enter unrestricted free agency at the end of the season. New England hasn’t made too much noise before each of the extensions has been announced this offseason, so perhaps the duo isn’t too far away from getting deals done.
