Patriots Reportedly Offer Matthew Judon Contract After Missed Practice

UPDATE 2:10 p.m. ET: The Athletic’s Dianna Russini issued a follow-up report stating Matthew Judon was offered “a few revised contracts” from the New England Patriots before training camp. The two parties have yet to agree on a re-worked deal, Russini wrote.

Original story: Matthew Judon might finally get what he desires from the Patriots.

New England on Wednesday offered the star pass rusher a revised contract after he missed practice Tuesday, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic. However, Judon responded to a fan claiming that the Patriots in fact did not offer him a contract.

“No they haven’t but it makes me look bad again. Don’t believe the lies,” Judon posted on X.

Judon and head coach Jerod Mayo got into a testy exchange during Monday’s practice regarding the 31-year-old’s desire for a new contract. Judon is set to make $6.5 million in base salary in the final year of his contract. The deal carries zero guaranteed money, and while the veteran said he would play under his contract no matter the circumstance, frustrations boiled over this week and that might not be the case.

NBC Sports Boston’s Phil Perry reported Judon was not at the Patriots facility Tuesday, and it’s unknown if he will report for practice Thursday or continue what is believed to be a holdout until he receives a new deal, which he revealed he already wrote out and gave to the New England front office.

Mayo expressed optimism the issue will be resolved, and neither side seemed open to a trade.
