Rafael Devers Home Run Prompts Fenway Park Incident Report

Thanks to Ted Williams, the Red Sox have “the red seat” prominently featured at Fenway Park to commemorate the Hall of Famer’s titanic blast.

And now, thanks to Rafael Devers, Boston can add “the broken seat” to the list of unique quirks at its home ballpark.

Devers did the damage in the first inning of Sunday afternoon’s matchup with the Kansas City Royals. The two-run home run was hit so hard — 114.7 mph exit velocity, to be exact — that it dislodged the top portion of a seat in the right-field bleachers. Boston used social media to reveal the incident report filed at Fenway Park after the star third baseman annihilated his 23rd home run of the season.

The seat wasn’t busted up for long, though. In the fifth inning of NESN’s broadcast of the series finale, Tom Caron revealed the chair had been fixed and no one in the surrounding area was injured by the hard-hit round-tripper.

The go-ahead blast marked the third-hardest hit home run of his career. And the 27-year-old managed to light up the radar gun despite a nagging shoulder injury, which will keep Devers from traveling to Globe Life Field in Texas for MLB All-Star Game festivities.
