Duran threw on a classic vest jersey
Boston Red Sox All-Star outfielder Jarren Duran paid homage to teammate Trevor Story with throwback threads before Friday night’s series opener against the Kansas City Royals.
Duran arrived at Fenway Park (proudly) wearing Story’s Colorado Rockies jersey before taking the field for a pivotal three-game set to close out the first half of the season — Boston leads Kansas City by a single game in the American League wild-card race. Story, who was limited to eight games in 2024, suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in April.
The sleeveless Colorado jersey also symbolizes Story’s All-Star form — the 31-year-old played for the National League twice (2018, 19) as a member of the Rockies.
Now Duran finds himself in the same spot Story was a few seasons ago, entering his first career All-Star Game after leading the Red Sox in doubles (25) and triples (10) in what’s been a breakout campaign for the 27-year-old speedy outfielder.
Growing into one of the most reliable roster members in Boston’s clubhouse prompted the organization to rally around Duran before the All-Star rosters were finalized.
“We were on this campaign for two weeks, right?” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said of Duran’s All-Star nod, as seen on NESN’s pregame coverage. “… And he earned it. From day one, he’s been our guy leading off and putting the pressure on the opposition, playing every day. The perfect player for this baseball environment that we live now, right? Hit the ball out of the ballpark, the running game is coming into play and defensively, he is amazing. Very special. I’m glad that he’s in Arlington.”
Duran will be joined by Red Sox teammate Tanner Houck for Tuesday night’s Midsummer Classic at Globe Life Field.
