Red Sox First-Round Pick Shares Instagram Post After Selection

Welcome to Boston, Braden Montgomery

The Red Sox’s latest first-round draft pick has an opportunity to bring quite a bit to Boston, including a great personality.

Boston selected outfielder Braden Montgomery with the 12th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft on Sunday night. Many thought the switch-hitting Texas A&M product was one of the very best prospects in this year’s class, so Craig Breslow might have committed an act of thievery with his first pick as Red Sox chief baseball officer.

Montgomery expressed sheer “happiness” after he was selected by Boston, and he plans to “make the most” of his Red Sox tenure. The 21-year-old shared more joy about his life-changing career development on Instagram, where he posted a photoshopped picture of himself wearing Boston gear.

“Let’s boogie, Boston,” the caption read.

MLB draft experts raved about Montgomery after he was taken by the Red Sox, specifically highlighting the damage the outfielder can do at the plate. But the youngster also was praised for his character, which was on full display in this year’s College World Series.

Montgomery was one of two prospects the Red Sox added to the organization Sunday evening. Boston also took left-handed pitcher Payton Tolle (TCU) with the No. 50 overall selection.
