Red Sox Notes: Boston Seeking Shift In Deflating Losing Streak

The Boston Red Sox rolled into the All-Star break with plenty of momentum, sitting 11 games over .500 and a 9-3 record in July.

That’s vanished since Boston’s return to action.

The Red Sox have dropped all four games in the unofficial second half thus far. Monday delivered another crushing blow with a series-opening extra-inning loss to the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

The Red Sox responded to even the score after an early 4-0 deficit. Boston then held the lead twice in extra innings only to surrender the advantage in both scenarios. The Rockies took the victory in the 12th inning, leaving Boston searching for answers in an incredibly crucial stretch of the season leading up to the MLB trade deadline on July 30.

“Just show up tomorrow, man,” Alex Cora told reporters, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “We played a great game here. We played three great games in LA. You show up tomorrow and play.”

“We understand where we’re at,” Zack Kelly told reporters, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “We understand what our jobs are. … We’re not playing bad baseball. We’re in these games. It’s just not going our way right now. We still have an opportunity to win this series and get back home for a week.”

With the exception of Sunday’s home run parade from the Dodgers, the Red Sox have been a play or two away from winning each game of this stretch. The Boston clubhouse is confident that such trends will even out.

“We’ve played a lot of tough baseball against a couple good teams,” Tyler O’Neill told reporters, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “Obviously, the Dodgers are a really good team. Any time you come to Colorado, it’s always a grind, man, playing in this environment.”

“We’re just one swing away, one out away in these games,” O’Neill added. “We could easily be 3-1 in these last four games. It’s just the way baseball goes.”
