Red Sox Reportedly Among Teams To Have ‘Inquired’ About Angels Bats

Los Angeles has multiple right-handed batters who could entice Boston

The Red Sox are linked to multiple players before the MLB trade deadline, and they could look out west for a boost to the lineup.

One of Boston’s biggest needs is a right-handed bat who can help it in matchups against left-handed starting pitchers. The Los Angeles Angels are among the sellers in the market and have multiple players who fit the Red Sox’s needs.

Boston, the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Pirates “have inquired” about Los Angeles’ available batters, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi. It’s unlikely Mike Trout will get move by the Angels, but Luis Rengifo and Taylor Ward are two players who are expected to be dealt before Tuesday’s deadline. Rengifo is a popular target for the Red Sox who services a need at the plate and in the infield.

The Red Sox also are linked to multiple All-Star pitchers, but they face stiff competition for those players, too. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and his staff already made a move when Boston traded away Nick Yorke to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Quinn Priester. Fans will have to wait and see if there will be more moves before 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday for a deal that has an immediate effect on the major league roster.
