Red Sox Vs. Yankees Lineups: Danny Jansen Makes Boston Debut

Boston landed Jansen in a trade Saturday

A “Sunday Night Baseball” showdown against the New York Yankees. What a time for Danny Jansen to make his Red Sox debut.

Jansen will be in Boston’s starting lineup one day after the club acquired him in a trade with the rival Toronto Blue Jays. The veteran catcher won’t be behind the dish for his first home game at Fenway Park, instead slotting in as his new team’s designated hitter. Jansen will bat seventh ahead of shortstop Ceddanne Rafaela and second baseman Jamie Westbrook.

Boston will try to bounce back from Saturday’s extra-innings loss with Tanner Houck on the bump in primetime. The All-Star wasn’t long for his outing against the Bronx Bombers on July 5 when he lasted only 3 1/3 innings at Yankee Stadium. Houck will be opposed by southpaw Carlos Rodón, who the Red Sox tagged for five runs on seven hits in mid-June.
