Triston Casas Offers Up Opinion On Red Sox Trade Deadline Moves

As Triston Casas began his long-awaited rehab stint Tuesday night with Triple-A Worcester, he made sure to keep his eyes on what the Boston Red Sox front office did at the MLB trade deadline.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and company completed five trades in the last week, including pulling off two deals on deadline day to acquire veteran relievers Lucas Sims and Luis García.

Boston started its acquisitions by obtaining James Paxton and also added catcher Danny Jansen and pitcher Quinn Priester, who was assigned to Worcester. The Red Sox gave up prospects in all of the trades, the most notable of which was Nick Yorke in the deal for Priester.

Casas, who spoke to the media prior to the Red Sox’s last-minute trade for García, offered up his opinion of the additions — and subtractions — Boston made.

“We’ve made a couple of great moves,” Casas told reporters, per Beyond The Monster’s Chris Henrique. “I’m sad to see Yorke go. He was one of my closer friends, but I’m happy to see Quinn in our locker room right now. I know he’s a really young prospect. He’s going to do a lot of great things. I know he’s already had time at the major league level, so I’m excited to see what he has. Getting to see Danny Jansen the other day, getting to meet him, but then again, sad to see Reese (McGuire) go. It’s a whirlwind of emotions, for sure. Glad to see Paxton back.”

While none of these trades could constitute as a major move, they did address several needs and checked off the boxes of acquiring starting pitching, relievers and a right-handed bat.

The Red Sox will look for pretty much all those players except for Priester to contribute to their playoff push. And Casas knows Boston will also be reinforced by the in-house additions, like himself, that are working their way back from injury.

“I’m hoping these guys can make a good impact,” Casas said. “And I’m hoping to come back as well as another acquisition in the near future.”
