Why Roman Anthony Apologized To Double-A Manager After Skills Showcase

Fortunately for Anthony, we don't think the Red Sox will hold it against him

Roman Anthony captured the attention of Red Sox fans when he unleashed his power during the Futures Skills Showcase at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on Saturday night.

But Anthony, ranked the top Red Sox prospect by Sox Prospects, still might have some explaining to do.

Anthony put himself behind the eight ball entering the final round of the Skills Showcase. It was due to the fact the 20-year-old was shut out in the first round, which rewarded players for bunting to infield locations or hitting to outfield targets.

The power-hitting prospect, who went deep on six of his eight pitches to win, had a comical reaction to his first-round struggles after claiming the hardware.

“I’m going to have to apologize to (Double-A Sea Dogs manager Chad Epperson) in Portland,” Anthony told reporters, per the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier. “We did way too much bunting for that.”

Fortunately for Anthony, it’s fair to think the Red Sox won’t hold it against him as he climbs up the organization’s ranks.
