Alex Cora Shared This Message To Top Red Sox Prospects Upon Triple-A Promotion

The Boston Red Sox had a milestone moment in the current standing of their farm system on Sunday with the reported promotion of Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony and Kyle Teel to Triple-A Worcester.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora certainly knows what the trio means to the organization’s future and maintained his message to them on Sunday.

“It’s good for them,” Cora told reporters, per NESN’s postgame coverage. “Just go out there and keep getting better. That’s something that (Portland manager Chad Epperson) has said all along. They’re good players, but they’re working on everything. Good base-runners. Being a good teammate. There’s a lot in player development that is not only what happens in between the lines.”

Cora spoke to the three high-profile prospects at the start of the season with the goal to keep them focused on their priorities with so many big-picture expectations looming over their seasons in the Red Sox farm system.

“Like I told them in spring training individually, there’s no age limit in the big leagues, right?” Cora shared. “You can make it at 19 or you can make it at 35. It doesn’t matter. If you’re good. You’re good.”

The trio will be ready when Worcester returns home to Polar Park to host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. While their impact likely won’t be until 2025 for the Red Sox, reaching the last stop before the majors is a significant movement for the next wave of talent in the organization.

“The fact there going all together over there is going to be fun,” Cora said. “Going to be fun to watch. They’re going to be a big part of this in the future. They really are. I’m glad that they’re doing an outstanding job.”
