Things seemed to come to a head between CeeDee Lamb and the Cowboys
The New England Patriots might have missed out on landing Brandon Aiyuk, but in the NFL, it doesn’t take long for another disgruntled wide receiver right to pop up and perhaps look for a new team.
And the newest candidate to fit that description is Dallas Cowboys star CeeDee Lamb.
Tensions between the Cowboys and Lamb, who is holding out at the moment in search of an extension, seemed to come to a head Thursday after owner Jerry Jones weighed in on where he stands with contract talks.
“I don’t have any urgency to get it done,” Jones said, per The Dallas Morning News.
Jones’ comments didn’t exactly sit well with Lamb, who responded on social media with a simple “lol” to what Jones said.
Lamb, 25, is in the final year of his rookie deal and is set to make $17.9 million for the upcoming season. Like Aiyuk, Lamb wants a significant pay raise that likely will give him a salary around $30 million per season, which is on par with the top receivers in the league.
Lamb’s production certainly is among the best for his position. The three-time Pro Bowler turned in a standout 2023 season in which he accumulated an eye-popping 135 catches, which led the NFL, to go along with 1,749 yards receiving and a career-high 12 touchdowns.
Lamb hasn’t officially asked for a trade, but it might not be a bad idea for the Patriots to make a phone call to Dallas and keep an eye on the situation, especially if things rapidly disintegrate leading to Lamb wanting off the Cowboys.
