How Danny Jansen Fared In Historic Red Sox-Blue Jays Continuation

Danny Jansen took the field as the center of attention at Fenway Park to start a doubleheader on Monday between the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays.

Jansen became the first player to play for both teams in an MLB game as the teams continued the suspended game from June 26.

He had been at the plate against Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford when the game came to a halt. In this resumption, he replaced then-Boston catcher Reese McGuire while Toronto’s Daulton Varsho hit in his spot for the Blue Jays lineup.

Varsho struck out to continue the game in that spot before Jansen went 1-for-4, tallying the first hit of the day for the Red Sox before striking out to end the 4-1 loss to Toronto.

The Red Sox catcher made history with his family in Boston to witness a never-before-seen moment in the majors.

“It was cool to experience that with (family) and have them there,” Jansen told reporters, per NESN’s postgame coverage. “Once the game started, just kind of locked in for the game and didn’t think about it much. Took a moment to enjoy it before the game.”

Jansen said he will give a jersey to the National Baseball Hall of Fame along with the lineup card from the Blue Jays-Red Sox matchup.

“I guess it hasn’t fully hit me yet,” Jansen added. “I’ll tell you what, I was surprised when I found out I was the first one to do it. It’s cool. Leaving a stamp on the game is interesting. It’s strange. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have that.”
