Jerod Mayo Addresses Ongoing Saga With Patriots Star Matthew Judon

Judon was present for practice Tuesday

Matthew Judon continues to make headlines at New England Patriots training camp, but none of it has to do with his on-field play.

The saga surrounding Judon and the Patriots reached another day Tuesday. He didn’t participate in any team drills, including 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 work. This came a day after Judon publicly opened up about his contract dispute.

Tuesday offered a chance, again, for first-year Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo to address the ongoing situation with Judon.

“Judon is doing what he has to do,” Mayo told reporters prior to practice, per team-provided video. “He’s out here every day. He’s in pads. He’ll be in pads today as well. He’s doing everything in the meeting rooms. It was a hiccup. I feel like we’re on the same page and we’re moving forward.”

If Mayo was irritated by Judon’s comments about his contract or his actions since camp started, including the two having an on-field spat last week, he didn’t show it. Mayo seemed to put on his former player’s cap and could somewhat see where Judon was coming from. He also said he hasn’t seen anything different from Judon amid all the drama.

“Sometimes I come to work and I don’t feel like talking at all either, both as a player and also as a coach,” Mayo said. “It’s day-to-day. What I will say about Judon, he always brings great energy to the practice field, brings great energy in the locker room, and that is the expectation that he set early on. I don’t see it any different now.”
