Jerod Mayo Reveals Patriots’ QB Plan For Preseason Finale

The New England head coach didn't offer playing time details

The Patriots prepare for their preseason finale, and it will be business as usual for the player deployment.

New England played all four quarterbacks in the first two preseason games to differing degrees; Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye’s playing time notably was different. While some teams won’t use their starters in the third and final preseason game, head coach Jerod Mayo won’t entertain that notion.

“We’re gonna play,” Mayo told reporters, per team-provided video. “Jacoby’s gonna start the game off. Drake will play as well. Joe (Milton III) will play as well. … Now you guys can sleep. (Bailey) Zappe will play.

To no one’s surprise, Mayo didn’t elaborate on details. Maye saw more work with the first-team offense in practice this week, but fans likely will have to wait until gameday to see if the coaching staff allows the rookie the same opportunity against the Washington Commanders.

Mayo noted some players are dealing with minor injuries and likely won’t suit up in preparation for the regular season. But for the all-important QB position, fans will get the full serving of the Patriots quartet.
