Aiyuk has the permission to speak with other teams
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan kept his comments to a minimum when asked a series of questions regarding wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
“I’m not getting into any specifics with offers, contracts, trades, anything like that, but what I can tell you is nothing has changed,” Shanahan told reporters Tuesday, per NBC Sports Bay Area. “I know a lot was out yesterday and stuff, but from the situation that we’re in with Brandon, nothing has changed.”
Shanahan, though, did confirm a rather important detail: Aiyuk has been given permission to communicate with other teams.
One of those teams Aiyuk and his representation has communicated with is the New England Patriots, as first reported by NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco on Monday night. Maiocco reported the Patriots made a contract extension proposal to Aiyuk’s camp, and that New England has a trade framework in place that the 49ers have agreed to.
The Patriots reportedly have dug in on Aiyuk.
Maiocco reported the Cleveland Browns also have extended a contract offer and agreed to a trade framework with San Francisco. Multiple reports surfaced Tuesday citing the Pittsburgh Steelers also are in the mix for Aiyuk.
Shanahan expressed the 49ers could come to terms with Aiyuk, as well.
“There’s a scenario for anything, so I don’t want to rule anything out,” Shanahan said.
Another thing he didn’t rule out? Aiyuk conversing with potential suitors.
