MLB Writer Suggests Potential Red Sox Call-Up Amid Playoff Push

Chase Meidroth has impressed in the minors

The Red Sox are putting together an exciting season, but a lot of the talk about the franchise this year has centered around Boston’s top prospects.

Deservedly so, as up-and-comers in the Red Sox system continue to impress as they climb the ranks in professional baseball. Most recently, four of Boston’s top five prospects — Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, Kyle Teel and Kristian Campell — earned deserved promotions to Triple-A.

None of those youngsters will help the Red Sox this season, but the same might not be able to be said about Chase Meidroth. MLB.com on Thursday put together a list of “potential impact callups” who could potentially help their respective clubs down the stretch, and the network spotlighted Meidroth for Boston.

“Boston just promoted its Big 4 (Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, Kyle Teel, Kristian Campbell) to Triple-A, but Meidroth has been there all season long, slashing .294/.445/.395 with 12 steals in 101 games,” the column read. “The 2022 fourth-rounder out of San Diego is an on-base machine whose best position is second base, which has been a revolving door for the contending Red Sox.”

The fit certainly makes sense. In addition to potentially providing some stability at second base, Meidroth swings an impactful right-handed bat — something Boston has been longing for all season long.

That said, the Red Sox might have a more significant infield boost on the horizon, as all signs point to Trevor Story rejoining the club before the regular season is over.
