NFL Rumors: Falcons Extension Not Expected For Matthew Judon

Judon is still on the hunt for a new deal

The Patriots couldn’t come to a contract resolution with Matthew Judon, so they made it someone else’s problem and traded him to the Falcons in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Atlanta just doesn’t seem eager to pay the 32-year-old, either.

Judon will head to the NFC South without an extension in hand, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, who added “there’s not an expectation one is imminent.”

Huh?

The Falcons made the deal seemingly hoping to keep Judon around for a while, but any extension talks reportedly will begin after the trade is finalized. The Patriots’ return was more than many expected, which could be due in part to the fact they knew the Falcons wouldn’t pony up any cash.

Jones added some context, saying “heavy and clear communication” took place between Judon, New England and Atlanta before a trade was agreed upon.

Judon is currently scheduled to play for just $6.5 million in 2024.
