There seems to be no end to this saga
The 49ers-Brandon Aiyuk saga seemed to be nearing a conclusion, but the sides remain at an impasse.
San Francisco reportedly worked out a framework for a trade with the Patriots and the Cleveland Browns. The sides reportedly offered Kendrick Bourne and Amari Cooper, respectively, along with draft picks. However, Aiyuk reportedly does not want to sign a long-term extension with those teams with New England removing itself from negotiations.
The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be the 26-year-old’s preferred destination, but the Niners haven’t been able to work out trade compensation. Head coach Kyle Shanahan admitted there weren’t any updates on the situation as Aiyuk continued his hold-in.
Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle didn’t have concrete updates, but he did bring up a team also on Aiyuk’s radar.
“My updated information is that everything is still on the table, including all the trades you’ve heard about … that Steelers scenario … I wouldn’t rule out Washington,” Silver said on KNBR.
The reason why the Commanders would be enticing for Aiyuk is because it’d allow him to reunite with former Arizona State teammate Jayden Daniels. However, San Francisco reportedly wants a wide receiver in return in a trade, and Washington this week dealt Jahan Dotson to the Philadelphia Eagles.
It’s unknown how the 49ers feel about the other pass-catchers on the Commaners’ roster. But they’ve expressed enough patience to wait things out and hope Aiyuk re-signs with them.
