Bailey Zappe is headed to KC, though
The Patriots will have an opportunity to continue working with some of the players they cut before Tuesday’s deadline.
The NFL didn’t seem too interested in many of them.
New England didn’t have a single player claimed Wednesday, per the league’s official transaction log, meaning the majority of them will be inclined to stick around in Foxboro, Mass. on the practice squad.
The Patriots waived/released safety Joshuah Bledsoe, offensive Kellen Diesch, offensive lineman Liam Fornadel, linebacker Joe Giles-Harris, running back Kevin Harris, running back Terrell Jennings, linebacker Kobe Jones, wide receiver Matt Landers, guard Atonio Mafi, defensive end Jotham Russell, kicker Chad Ryland, safety A.J. Thomas, cornerback Shaun Wade, wide receiver David Wallis, tight end Mitchell Wilcox, long snapper Tucker Addington, wide receiver Kawaan Baker — *takes deep breath* — defensive end William Bradley-King, defensive tackle Josiah Bronson, linebacker Steele Chambers, running back Deshaun Fenwick, cornerback Azizi Hearn, offensive tackle Zuri Henry, defensive end Christian McCarroll, tight end La’Michael Pettway, defensive tackle Sam Roberts, center Charles Turner, cornerback Mikey Victor, tight end Jacob Warren and quarterback Bailey Zappe prior to the deadline.
Zappe chose to move on, reportedly signing with the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad. Roberts also found a new home, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, signing with the Chicago Bears’ practice squad with the intention of being an early elevation.
Harris is a strong candidate to return to the practice squad, while Jennings and Landers already re-signed according to Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald.
New England did claim four players, which means space will need to be made on the active roster. The Patriots likely will hope whoever is moved can easily be kept around on the practice squad.
